Facebook’s ‘Campaign Idea Generator’: The future for marketing or a trendy gimmick?

Due to the uncertainty and volatility of Covid-19, many small businesses have had to learn, adapt and change rapidly. In fact, according to a 2020 report by Goldman Sachs, almost two-thirds of small businesses had a decrease in revenue. One of the fundamental factors for these businesses to stay afloat is adopting new technology. But what have social media platforms done to aid our micro-proprietors?

Well… Facebook heard and listened. Earlier this year, they launched their ‘Campaign Idea Generator’ to help inspire small business’ marketing methods with insights, templates and recommendations catering to various business types and events.

Facebook themselves described it as, "A provider for campaign ideas, pre-made assets and resources that are specific to your small business needs." It may sound like a unique and slightly bizarre concept, since campaign ideas usually develop organically and internally, but it does provide some valuable tips and tricks to help prompt your creative juices.

 So, how does it work?

To get started, you begin by selecting your business type and your preferred time of year your promotional campaign will occur. From there, you’re able to scan through relative campaign ideas, affiliated data and insights, as well as look into external resources.

Undoubtedly, this is a pretty useful and user-friendly kit to stimulate your brain when on the hunt for ideas, but whether many small businesses and marketers will implement this as a serious tool is hard to tell. Is this automated methodology the future for marketing or does the human brain have the edge?
